Architecture
Between Christmas and New Year, Dave and I were talking about houses, design and what we liked in houses. Because of this discussion over many cups of coffee and Christmas cake and other good weight enhancing snacks, I have been doing some surfing to pull together some interesting sites and areas of potential study.
I have dumped some links here in no particular order. If the links do not work, just search for the text instead of clicking on the links.
Lord Norman Forster:
There is no end to this man or his firm's talent. I have had a tour of 30 St Mary Axe and although I did not like the reception area very much, I do like the building a lot. The Milau Viaduct in France is also fantastic.
Read his profile and then follow the links off the following page.
Frank Lloyd Wright:
There is so much on the internet about this fantastic architect that I have included the google search in the link instead. Have a look at Fallingwater.
Mies van der Rohe:
Have a read about the controversial Farnsworth House at this link and then follow the further links on the last page of the article.
Le Corbusier:
Link to Le Corbusier Foundation.
Take a look at some of his buildings at the following link.
Adolf Loos:
Read the descriptions of his philosophy and buildings at the following link.
Piere Koenig:
Read about his houses and ideas at this link.
German Architecture:
This site contains some fantastic links to both buildings and other great architects.
Other Links:
I think that is enough for now. Ah... if you want to study architecture, take a look at the Oxford Brookes university pages at the following link.
Take a look at the skyscrapers and interesting data on buildings and cities at this link for Emporis. (The link looked a bit slow when I tried to go in on 3 Jan 2005.)
